The Arbonne Charitable Foundation ™ and Big Brothers Big Sisters Tulsa Event
The Arbonne Charitable Foundation continues to move forward on its mission to improve self-esteem and inspire teenagers toward a positive future. On December 1, 2012, The Arbonne Charitable Foundation ™ held a special event in Tulsa, Okla., with the local chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters that included educational and motivational speeches and activities. Our speakers, Arbonne Angels Yolantrice Collins and Becky Swails, were incredibly inspirational. They provided personal insight and experience about self-image, confidence, the media, and handling emotion and stress.
Becky Swails started out speaking about emotion and stress, how they affect your life, and ways to manage and overcome them. Perception also became an important topic during group discussions and demonstrating how everyone thinks differently. Becky also focused on goal setting and gave the teens great advice on how to approach the interview process and tips on how to be successful in future job searches.
The attendees then had the pleasure of hearing Yolantrice speak about social media and self-image. With a background in education, Yolantrice made the session fun, informative, and interactive for the participants. Some activities included having the teens fill out a “power grid” with their dreams, strengths, and purpose in life. The teens were asked to take one statement from their power grid and proclaim it; mirrors were passed around the tables so each girl could fully embrace and declare the message to themselves. Teens also participated in another special self-esteem building activity where hot pink notecards were taped to each teen’s back, and attendees were encouraged to write positive messages to one another. By the end of the day, each card was completely filled with inspiring messages.
Over lunch, the girls got to know the other participants. Teens then completed a “YOU Collage Box,” a way to express themselves internally and externally and provide a safe place for their dreams, goals and personal inspirations.
Attendees left with exciting raffle prizes, goodie bags, new friendships, positive memories and, most importantly, the knowledge and courage to advance toward a successful future.
Below are quotes from the teens at the event in response to the question, “What did you learn today that you didn’t know yesterday?”
